While I’ve been querying Kevin Murphy and livelying up myself with Gretchen Rubin’s “Happiness Project Toolbox,” I’ve also been tearing through Sarah Vowell’s “Radio On.” In it, she spends the whole of 1995 listening to the radio. Rush Limbaugh AND Candlebox. Ouch.
To commiserate, I’ve been listening to the radio here in Los Angeles, which is grim. Just today, I drove up to Runyon Canyon for a hike with Junior and turned on LA’s dancey-top-40 station AMP. On the ten-minute trip there, I heard Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” followed by Young Money’s “Bedrock.” Got out, hiked for just over an hour, and on the trip home, heard Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” followed by Young Money’s “Bedrock.” It’s like radio is terrified they’re going to lose you, but also they hate you and think you’re an idiot.
