You know how every non-fiction book in the last three years has been about the author doing one odd, life-disrupting thing for one full year and then writing a book about it? I'm reading one of those books a week for one full year and then writing a book about it. It's My Year Of Everything, and you're soaking in it. CONTACT: Dave Holmes/davedotcom@mac.com

I’m back, folks.
The My Year Of book I’m currently reading is “Sundays In America: A Yearlong Roadtrip In Search Of Christian Faith,” in which Suzanne Strempek Shea visits a new Christian church each Sunday for a year. And then…nothing else happens. No cumulative effect on her faith, no interaction with any of the churchfolk once the service ends, no substantive criticism beyond a faint “Oh, it’s a shame they think gay people are going to hell.” Not that she needs to go all Roger Ebert’s Twitter Feed on these people, but this book is short on real engagement, so my engagement with it is taking some effort. Pray for me or whatever!
There are some thought-provoking moments which I’ll share with you throughout the day, and then I’m moving on. Get me out of the church on time.
